Asperger/Autism Groups
             “FRIENDS"

       Social Skills Training Group
                 for Adolescents

Who is this for:  Adolescents
                             Diagnosed with
                             Asperger's or Other
                             Autism Spectrum
                             Disorder

Age: 12 to 15 Years (Level I)
      
  16 to 20 Years (Level II)

What: Structured classes for small
          groups of males or females -
          Sessions include learning a
          specific skill and practicing that
          skill while engaging in fun
          group activities

        Progressive skill-building will focus on:

Week 1: Rules of the Group (Limited Confidentiality)
Week 2: Names & Faces (Recognizing & Addressing
                  Peers)
Week 3: Eye Contact & Smiles (Being Friendly &
                 Attentive)
Week 4: Introductions & Opening Lines (Initiating
                 Conversations)
Week 5: Taking Turns (Reciprocity)
Week 6: Expressing Emotions (Do’s and Don’ts)
Week 7: Reading Emotions (Learning to Identify the
                  Feelings of Others)
Week 8: Listening Skills (Attending & Remembering)
Week 9: Problem Solving (Resolving Conflicts)
Week 10: Coping (Handling Frustrations &
                  Disappointments)
Week 11: Good Manners (Being Polite &
                 Considerate)  
Week 12: Telephone Skills & Invitations (Initiating Get
                 Togethers)

When: Meets every other week for a
            total of 12 two-hour sessions -
           days vary depending upon
           particular group - YOU MUST
           BE REGISTERED IN ORDER
           TO ATTEND

        
JOIN US FOR GAME NIGHT
     FROM 5:00 - 9:00 P.M. ON THE
     3RD FRIDAY OF EACH MONTH
     FOR ONLY $2.50 PER PERSON

Cost: $75 for one individual
          prescreening session plus $30
          for each biweekly session
          ($2.50 for game night)

Continuation within the group will be
dependent upon the student’s ability
to maintain safe and non-aggressive
                         behaviors.

                    “PLAYMATES”

Type of Service: Intensive Social Skills
                              Training Group

Who is this for: Children with Asperger's
                            or Other Autism
                            Spectrum Disorder

Age: 5 to 7 years (Level I)
        8 to 11 years (Level II)

What: Structured classes for small
          groups of boys or girls - Sessions
          include learning a specific social
          skill and practicing it during fun
          group activities

           Progressive skill-building will focus on:

Weeks 1-2: Faces & Names (Learning to Recognize
               Familiar People)
Weeks 3-4: Friendliness (Eye Contact & Smiles)
Weeks 5-6: Cooperative Play (Taking Turns & Playing
               Together)
Weeks 7-8: Expressing & Reading Emotion
               (Understanding Nonverbal Cues)

When: Meets every week for a total of 8
           weekly sessions, each 1-1/2
           hours long

Cost: $75 for an individual prescreening
          session plus $25/weekly session

     Continuation within the group is
dependent upon your child’s ability to
   maintain safe and non-aggressive
                          behaviors.

       "CHILD'S WORK"

Type of Service: Individual "Filial"
                              Play Therapy

Who is this for: Children with
                            behavioral and
                            emotional problems
                            and their parent

Age: 2 to 4 years

What: Individual therapy sessions are
          scheduled each week. The
          parent is trained in the overall
          principles and methodology of
          play therapy so they can
          continue the therapeutic work
          with their child at home

Play is children's "work" - Individual
     Play Therapy is a time-honored
 method for helping children release
their emotions in a safe environment
           and develop attachments

When:
Appointments are available on
           weekdays between the hours
           of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Cost: $75 per session

 PARENTS OF DEPENDENT
               ADULTS

Type of Service: Support Group

Who is this for: Parents of Dependent
                           Adults with Asperger's
                           or Other Autism
                           Spectrum Disorder

Age: Parents only (no children please)

What: Informal sharing with other
          parents and offering
          encouragement, emotional
          support, and helpful tips for
          one another on issues such as
          guardianship, supported living,
          group homes, money
          management, and employment

When: 4th Monday each month from
           11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

Cost: Free
